Internet Addiction

00000179_internet_addictionAlthough Internet Addiction is not yet officially recognized as a disorder, it is becoming a serious problem for many and is frequently seen in varying degrees in those with chemical dependency. Some of the behavior that we should be aware of are excessive, overwhelming, or inappropriate internet pornography use, gambling, online social networking, blogging, email, or internet shopping.
During early recovery it is always important to be aware of any behavior done in excess and the internet provides an easy place to hide from the problems that were developed during active addiction. Recovery is about changing old behaviors and keeping a close eye on those new behaviors that are developing. The best way to do this is to work with a sponsor and keep a close support network that will help monitor anything that might come in the way of a healthy recovery.
